A Louisville, KY native, blessed with artistic abilities and writing skills discovered by parents and teachers at an early age--along with a personal relationship with God, it was decided as a child to somehow share with others. Educated through the Jefferson County Public Schools, Karen learned of the free enterprise system and becoming an entrepreneur. She thought through working, saving and purchasing supplies, education, training, etc. needed, in spare time, a business vehicle could be created to return something positive back to the community she loved. Since age 14 from summer jobs that encompassed janitorial, child care, clerk-typist; part-time after school McDonalds counter girl from 10th grade through 1 year after graduation (before leaving for Western KY University completing 3 semesters); through the myriad of clerical/secretarial positions (while continuing education evenings at UofL, Santa Ana College (now Rancho Santiago), Jefferson Community College and periodic classes through JCPS) in the fields of medicine, legal, engineering, manufacturing/distribution through various full time and temporary placed positions and ultimately over 22 years executive secretarial experience. Despite environmental violence and other negatives presented, through her books, A Little Something, Something More, Definition and From Beneath the Surface, (buy through www.authorhouse.com or bn.com (Barnes & Noble) she writes positively through poetry and short stories about experiences hoping to inspire, encourage, or bring a smile while sharing from her perspective. (Something More e-book is available through www.amazon.com and bn.com.)
Art has been displayed locally at the Kentucky State Fair, Louisville Woman's Club, Highland Art Studios, Kentucky Center For the Arts "Impromptu Art Show", etc. Motivated by visits to nursing homes, hospitals, dormitories, and other places in need of inspiration to brighten up a small area, she decided to duplicate all pieces from "Impromptu" show to 8-1/2 x 11 and 11 x 14 sizes, framing and sharing as gifts--thus "Art by Karen" was created.
